Bali Sports ventures into the Ocean with Bali Ocean Swim
This Sunday may have held a special significance for our American cousins, but from now on July 4th will also be remembered in Bali for the birth of the Bali Ocean Swim with Bali Sports continuing to make positive waves on the island with it’s latest event as part of the inaugural Bali Charity Beach Games.
Stiff Chilli will sponsor the inaugural Bali Beach Games that is to include the Bali Ocean Swim,5th HOTAIR! Kitesurf Comp , Bali Strongman contest and other still to be determined. The Games will be over the first week of July with aim to promote awareness of the programs of the Bali Sports 4 Peace Foundation.
On Friday 13 June, a team consisting of players from 5 Indonesian clubs (Komodos, JJRG, Bantengs, Bali RFC, Bandung Rams), played Macau. The game was proudly sponsored by Stiff Chilli (Rodney Holt) Bali RFC. Many thanks to Rodney. IRFU will no doubt have a write up of the match for OB. But below are some impressions from that match.
Both teams arrive early (6pm for a 7pm match) onto holy turf. The grounds are nice and firm and a little wet below the surface (ummm). Macau in their training gear, Barbarians in their club jerseys. The 45 minute warm up, led by Coach Steve Hayward, was the first half for some. With minutes to go, our new spanking Barbarian jerseys with red shorts made its way to the stands. With no time to change, we changed on the field as Macau waited. As with proud Baabaas rugby, club socks were the norm. Tom “Blowfish” Elliot was made captain. Being the great tosser he is, we won the coin and elected to kick off from club end. The call for the first half was “Indonesian pride.”

Friday June 13 will see the “Stiff Chilli” Indonesian Barbarian’s take on the touring Macau Rugby Union team. This will be the second time Macau has traveled to Jakarta to take on the best that Indonesian has to offer. 2006 saw the first time that Macau challenged the Indonesian Barbarians. Macau proved to be too strong that year but with the continued development of our local players and an influx of recent expatriate players this should prove to be a competitive match.
