Jelena Jankovic and Caroline Wozniacki have both established themselves as contenders for the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions after beginning the clay court season with impressive victories. Jankovic claimed her first title of the year at the Andalucia Tennis Experience event in Marbella with a 6-3 3-6 6-3 victory over Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro, while Wozniacki enjoyed a swift 6-1 6-2 win against the similarly-named Aleksandra Wozniak at the MPS Group Championships in Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida.

Patty Schnyder had played the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic three times before, never getting beyond the semi-finals. Now she’s the champion, after beating 17-year old Tamira Paszek 6-3 6-0.

The victory was a milestone in more ways than one for Schnyder. It was the 500th singles victory of her career, and her 11th title. It had been a while since her last one, which was in Cincinnati back in July 2005. In fact, she had lost an amazing seven finals since then.

With less than a month to go, the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic 2008 is shaping up to be one of the best lineups so far, with Daniela Hantuchova, Patty Schnyder, Nadia Petrova, Flavia Pennetta, Francesca Schiavone among the leading players expected.
Qualifying starts on Sunday, September 7, at 10am and the main draw matches will begin every afternoon at 3pm from Monday through to Friday, September 8-12. The semi-final matches will start at 4.30pm on Saturday, September 13 and the finals for singles and doubles will be held on Sunday, September 14 starting at 2:30pm.
Tickets are now on sale to be sure to book your spot to watch Asia's leading women's tennis tournament at the Grand Hyatt, Bali.

The Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic will once again feature a rich collection of tennis talent, with many exciting new names joining the familiar faces who make the premier tennis event of South-East Asia an essential stop on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

The tournament, to be held at the Grand Hyatt Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali between 7th and 14th September, includes many of the pacesetters of 2008. As well as many players who have earned titles this year, there are several who have claimed stunning upsets at the highest level, including headline-grabbing victories at the Grand Slams held in Melbourne, Paris and London.
