The 2009 Bali Masters 9s is looking set to be Asia’s biggest ever Aussie Rules event. With most teams who participated last year already confi rmed, as well as strong interest by a number of teams from both Asia and Australia, it is projected that at least 12 teams from six countries will play in this year’s tournament.
The Geckos have a history of setting the standard in Asian football. It’s uniquely conceived Bali 9s increased the professionalism of footy tournaments in Asia. At the time the Bali 9s were the biggest footy events on the continent, even attracting the then Prime Minister John Howard and opposition leader Simon Crean to attend events. This year the tournament will feature Australian based umpires that the Geckos, with major support from AFL Masters, have arranged to fl y to Bali for the event.
