Archery SEA Games squad member Gusti Nyoman Puruhito, had to settle for the silver medal in the premier event the compound bow of the 2009 Asian Archery Championships held in the Niti Mandala Renon Square, Saturday (21/11). In the final, athlete from Bojonegoro, East Java, had to submit to the strength of IR Sanam (India).
In fact, it was a close points chase,neck a neck,at the start . Puruhito scored 26-26, then got ahead 52-50, until a thin 79-78 lead, and then finally defeated 103-106 by Sanam.
Puruhito was the only medal winner from the hosts Indonesia. After the match, the son of Gusti Nyoman Budiana from Tabanan ,nicknamed Adit commented that the strong winds made it difficult.
Therefore, Adit added in archery hard work and skill makes up 90 percent, while luck is 10 percent. ‘‘I was unlucky with the wind”.
Adit will now focus on the SEA Games in Laos in December. “He’s finished higher than his opponents from the Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Philippines, so I am more optimistic in the SEA Games,’‘the coach Endah S explained.
According to Endah, Adit’s smarter opponent predicted the wind. His opponent’s’‘masterful performance was in reading the hard wind, and this will the basis of our evaluation and self-correction,’‘he explained.
