Bali Sevens Netball tournament // Mon, 06 Apr 09

The Bali Sevens Netball tournament held on the14th March at BIS was held in a social spirit, with a big emphasis on enjoying the opportunity for some friendly competition as part of a weekend jaunt to enjoy Bali’s many other attractions.

This years tournament attracted 5 teams- 2 teams from Singapore-Santa Fe and Tamlin Tigers, Leggy Lumpurs from KL and the 2 Indonesian Teams- Surabaya Swifts and the Bali Flames.
Santa Fe were by far the superior team and ended up winning every game, Leggy Lumpurs showed flashes of brilliance and were really great sports, but were let down with a few injuries.  The Swifts were hard at the ball and determined, The Flames had 2 draws, but were a little out-matched and the Tigers just had lots of fun.
The results of the Tournament:
1       Santa Fe             8 points
2       Leggy Lumpurs     5 points
3       Surabaya Swifts     4 points
4       Bali Flames           2 points
5       Tanglin Tigers       1 ponits
Player of the Tournament:      Ash from Santa Fe
All Rounder:                        Holly from Tanglin Tigers
Tournament Umpire:              Justine from Surabaya Swifts
The after tournament function at Lanai showed Bali at it best. Great sunset, Red Bull and Vodkas for the players to re-charge their batteries on arrival followed by a delicious buffet at Lanai. A number of the girls then went on for some more fun at Aikon.
We would like to thank the sponsors
-Surfer Girl for providing wonderful new tees
-Glo for the prize vouchers
-Sanur Deli for a yummy lunch
-Lanai for Sunset Cocktails/Dinner after the tournament
Team Info
Bali Flames
The Bali Flames Netball Club was formally launched in June 2007, and has since toured overseas and hosted several tournaments in Bali including the annual Sevens and an annual mixed tournament where the guys get to pit themselves against the girls! With players from as far afield as Indonesia and Australia to New Zealand and England – some of whom had never heard of netball before joining the club. They train weekly at BIS and welcome players of all backgrounds and fitness levels.

Leggy Lumpurs
The Leggy Lumpurs from KL are from a netball club that was originally established about 10 years ago by the Association of British Women in Malaysia. With players mainly from UK and Australia, they are a fun and friendly bunch of teachers and other expats, who enjoy training, in the very loose sense of the word, each week (although it does depend on the progress of American Idol as to how many turn up!). We have done many tours (of the local bars and restaurants in our area!) but for some of us it is the first time in Bali so we are all looking forward to meeting other players and competing in this year’s Sevens tournament.

Santa Fe Netball Club (Singapore)
Santa Fe began in 2002 and is sponsored by a relocation company of the same name. Our club comprises of 40 registered players, predominantly expatriate women living in Singapore, who enjoy coming together for the fitness and social aspect of the game. We participate in various leagues within Singapore as well as friendly matches and mixed competitions. This year’s Bali Sevens tournament is our first netball tour where we will make our mark on the international scene.
Surabaya Swifts
The Swifts have come together specially for the carnival, but a dedicated group of netballers in Surabaya play regularly on Tuesday evenings. To make up numbers over the years we’ve included the ‘boys’ in weekly games and been quite flexible with rules. Recently, however,  we have had the luxury of an umpire, so the boys have far less liberty with the rules and the standard of ‘true netball’—as opposed to a hybrid version of netball-rugby—has risen. Our team for the Sevens tournament has players from Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Great Britain The Swifts come to Bali with the outlook: “We are here for the netball, the fun, social interactions and a good time in Bali and are sure we won’t be disappointed!”
Tanglin Tigers
Tanglin Tigers is based at the Tanglin Trust School in Singapore with the majority of players being either teachers or parents at the school. This is the Tigers’ first overseas tour in recent years and they are hoping to make it a regular fixture on their playing calendar. The Tigers recently finished third in a mixed netball tournament in Singapore. For more information contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
