Indonesian Mixed Netball Championship // Thu, 14 Aug 08

The Stiff Chilli Flames Netball Club narrowly missed out on taking home the trophy in the Indonesian Mixed Netball Championship this month, going down to the Jakarta Kangarudas by just one point.
The Flames hosted the inaugural tournament at Bali International School, with three Bali teams (the Flames, Dragons and Barong) and two Jakarta teams (the Kangarudas and K7 Kemang).
The competition was very evenly matched between all teams—the Dragons also lost by just one point in their match against the Kangarudas, who proved too strong with spot-on shooting and tight defence.
Each team was allowed to have up to two men playing at any one time, and miraculously the only casualties suffered by the ladies were a disjointed finger and bruised knee (which caused the Flames to be one player down in the first half of their game against the Kangarudas).
The girls got off comparatively lightly if you compare this to what goes on in a footy match! We hope the Geckos fare as well when they take on Asia at the Aussie Rules Asian Championships in Singapore next month.
The Flames would like to thank their major sponsor Stiff Chilli for supporting the tournament, and Glo Day Spa for donating the spa treatments awarded to Jakarta’s best female (Bronwyn Peace) and male player as well as prizes for the fundraising raffle drawn after the event.
A big thank you also goes to other raffle prize sponsors: Jason Childs, Villa Mimpi, Robyn Schonell, Ku De Ta, Prana Spa, Chill Reflexology and Kevala Ceramics.
The money raised from the raffle will help the Flames pay for club equipment, work towards an overseas tour, and make a substantial contribution to the Jodie O’Shea Orphanage in Denpasar.
