Australia Rules, Gailey Holds Her First Honor Position in the Fourth MRA Bali International Triahlon 2010
Denpasar, June 21, 2010 by June Arya – Michelle Ann Gailey of Australia and Jens Wilken of Germany cloked 02:29:45 and 02:27:22 respectively, in the fourth MRA Bali International Triathlon held Sunday morning of June 20, 2010, in Jimbaran Bay and the southernmost peninsula of Bali. Beating her own record from last year, Gailey returned to claim her first honor position as the overall winner in the Olympic Distance Female Category.
Bryce Fernly (AUS) came after Wilken at 02:33:04, followed by his Australian fellow, Hamilton Stephen in the Olympic Distance Male Category. Nathalie Lawrendeau and Rachel Smith, both from Australia, too, clocked 02:36:26 and 02:38:09 in the female category, following Gailey.
The additional Sprint Distance category made the race differ from previous years, where individual or the 3-member team must swim 500m, cycle 10km, and run 5km – almost half of the regular Olympic Distance’s (1.5km swim, 10km cycle, and 10km run). The ‘Triathlon For The Soul’s Sprint Distance was made in order to encourage more participants – individuals or new athletes trying for endurance test – proven with the significant increase of total participants from 357 in 2009 to more than 700 participants in MRA Bali International 2010. Within sprint category, Evan Gallager and his wife, Nicole Gallagher from Australia came as the overall winner. Following them are Australians Jeremy Ackland and Carl Andrews in the male category and respectively, Lesley McDonald (AUS) and Cameron Edwards (USA) in the female category. Australia rules in the fourth MRA Bali Triathlon 2010.
Indonesian Balawista Team A clocking 01:11:16 came before Amman Indo Team in the sprint distance relay category. And Kartika Plaza Team 1 could not hold their last year’s position from Bali Trail Blazers Team 1 in the Olympic Distance Relay Category.
Best Indonesia Time was awarded to Kadri Regar, followed by Dwi Ratsongko, and Indonesia’s legendary swimmer, Richard Sam Bera, on the third place.
