Dear All,
Welcome to another edition of Bali Sports Mag,covering sport in the island of the gods,or athletes from Bali on the world stage.
In this edition we cover the recent major sporting events in Bali,namely the Commonwealth Tennis Classic,AFL Bali 9’s,Bali Netball tournament and Bali Cricket League.
In other news we look at Bali athletes overseas at the SCC Rugby Union 7’s,the Lightning Arnis Singapore Cup and the Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championship.
Other news the Sanur Sports Festival this weekend with Beach Rugby,Kyoshin Kyu Karate,Basketball
and for the first time in Bali and Indonesia,Beach Cricket,full results and reports .
So as we welcome President Obama to Bali,have a great weekend of sport

3rd BALI OCEAN SWIM 2012 // Wed, 23 Nov 11
The 2012 Bali Ocean Swim will be held on Sunday July 8,2012.Now in its 3rd edition,as usual it will start from the Bali Garden Beach Resort & Spa in Kuta and participants will swim across Kuta and back.There will a 10 km swim for the pros and a 1.2 km swim for those wanting a less daunting challenge.All proceeds go to Bali Sports Foundations disabled swimming programs.

Next door to the Beach Cricket,the action was in the Beach Rugby League.
Played on a smaller field with 5 players per side,the action is fast and fun,and because players are running 30% slower because of the sand,injuries are reduced.

Cricket on the beach???
On a beautiful,but hot Sunday Bali Sports Foundation held the first Beach Cricket tournament ever held in Bali on the Mertasari Beach in South Sanur.Beach Cricket a variation of the regular game and indoor cricket.Batting in only one direction,and with a solid wicket to allow the ball to bounce.

BALI RUGBY PLAYERS DO INDONESIA PROUD IN SINGAPORE // Tue, 22 Nov 11
Bali Rugby Union players Ni Kadek Ana Sugitawati,Georgina Barnett and Angela Clark in the women’s and Dave Palmer,Markus and Nick Mesritz in the men’s played a pivotal role in the Indonesian National 7’s teams in the prestigious SCC 7’s in Singapore on Nov 4-6.

2011 ROAD TO SINGAPORE SOCCER 6’s // Mon, 21 Nov 11
On the 30th October,Bali Sports Foundation kicked off its “Road to Singapore” with the Tabanan Soccer 6’s,a Regional under 14 six a side soccer tournament in which the winner from each Regency tournament will contest the final round in the Municipality of Denpasar. The winner of the final will be taken by BSF to the “Singapore U14 Soccer Sixes tournament” next year. This tournament involves teams from all over Southeast Asia including Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore and India amongst others.

2011 AFL BALI 9’s // Mon, 21 Nov 11
The 9th annual Bali Nine-A-Side Australian Rules Football tournament proudly sponsored by Coca Cola, Quiksilver and Canggu Club was held on Saturday at the Canggu Club under rain soaked skies, but the weather failed to dampen another successful tournament hosted by the Bali Geckos. The host team was looking to defend its title against two teams from Western Australia, one from Borneo, and an all Indonesian development squad from Jakarta, the Garudas.

2011 BALI FLAMES NETBALL TOURNAMENT // Mon, 21 Nov 11
The Bali Flames netball Invitational saw an amazing day of netball at the Bali International School on October 22. Teams from Singapore and Thailand came to the island of the Gods with shopping and pampering in mind, with a bit of netball thrown in on the side. 10 games in total were played, with the Singapore Bedok Kings coming in first place whilst the other places were all decided with percentage points and count backs. It could have been any teams day, as all games were extremely close with people drawing on their old high school netball skills for the day. The Bali Flames had a fabulous surprise with their star goal shooter Yani Muir who has recently relocated to Hong Kong venture back to surprise all the girls on the day and wear the Bali Flames uniform one more time. A big thank you goes to Pam Dorrian, Tamara Serong and Bec Hamer for organizing a well run event on the day and Bella Wellerman who organized a night to remember at the post tournament function where the champers and cocktails kept flowing into the wee hours of the morning.

Junior Women’s Competition // Mon, 21 Nov 11
Surfer Girl team rider Pua brought home the 1st place trophy in the Under 14 Girls Division and teammate Tiana finished in third place in the Under 12 Girls Division of the final Magic Wave MSC Surf Series event of the year at Kuta Beach last Sunday. It was a history-making day for the entire Surfer Girl team, and nobody was more proud than team manager Michaela.

The last ball has been hit in Bali, and it was a netted backhand from Anabel Medina Garrigues which gave victory to Ana Ivanovic in the last staging of the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions.

The most potential junior tennis player in Indonesia, Tami Grende, a resident of Denpasar, Bali was successfully claiming doubles title with her Japanese partner, Yuriko Miyazaki in “Hong Kong Open Junior Tennis Championship 2011” being held at Victoria Park Tennis Complex, Hong Kong on Friday (October 7).
