ANCHOR: Indonesia celebrated its 63rd independence day over the weekend. And while there were large celebrations throughout the country, they also reached inside prison walls. Our Bali, Indonesia team tells us how.

STORY:
A sports competition between prisoners was held for the first time at Krobokan Jail in Bali. Aside from celebrating Indonesia’s independence day, the competition helped to bring jail inmates together.

There were nine sports that inmates could play such as football, table tennis, volleyball, and even a laughing competition.

A sight to be seen were inmates dancing to music during a football game.

Female football competition was also very interesting. Rene Laurene is serving a 20 year jail sentence for drug use in the country. But today she was just another athlete aiming for gold.

[Yon Haryono, Krobokan Jail]:
“Through this sports party, we are sure that they can foster more friendship among each other.”
